Facilities Planning
What is Capital Planning?
Capital Planning oversees all activities associated with planning and financing the construction of new facilities. It also handles the Repair and Rehabilitation Program.
What are space guidelines?
Space guidelines are a tool to plan and distribute spaces across the university in an equitable and consistent manner.
How can I request additional space for newly hired personnel?
Departments should submit requests through chairpersons/directors, as approved by the concerned Dean/AVP.

Is approval from Space Management or the Central Facilities Committee required in order to make changes to space that is already assigned to my department?
Approval for changes to space depends on the scope of work and the magnitude of the change. Any request for changes to existing space should be routed to spacemanagement.pr@lau.edu.lb, which will determine the level of approval and update the university’s space inventory accordingly.

How can I get support for an event?
The Physical Plant Office provides logistical and maintenance support to all events inside and outside university campuses.
Whom do I notify when there is a fire? And where should I go?
When there is a fire, you should pull the nearest manual pull station and exit the building, heading to the nearest assembly point (Assembly Areas on Campus (PDF - 2.7MB)).
What are the procedures for moving offices?
The Space Planning and Management Unit handles the coordination of any moving process with the affected department(s)/users from initiation to completion with the support of the University Services’ Departments.

What safety systems are installed to fight fires?
LAU dormitories and new buildings feature fire alarm systems capable of detecting fire at very early stages, firefighting sprinkler systems to automatically fight fires, and fire extinguishers for use by trained personnel. In addition, other systems such as the public address system and smoke management system are all designed to provide LAU with the safest possible environment.

The Physical Space Inventory includes two useful sections:
- A directory that lists all the University buildings, offices, services, public spaces, centers and institutes.
- An inventory that categorizes and lists all university space functions, and includes a photo gallery.
How can I find the location of an academic department?
Consult our buildings and grounds section and look for the department in the appropriate campus.
Where can I overview building information and users per buildings?
If you have questions regarding basic building information, such as building name and users per building, visit the Buildings and Grounds link.

What is the leading cause of fire on campus?
The leading cause of fire on campus is kitchen fires. Stoves should never be left unattended while cooking. Turning on the hood while cooking will prevent initiation of false alarms.
